Class #1

PED1140A, welcome to your Language class - Bringing Language to Life for Life!

I'm so excited to get started. As you'll hear in class, we'll be going over a LOT of ideas each and every class. Every class, our materials will be shared on here. If there is something you miss in class, you can refer back to the slideshow from that class.

Feel free to leave a comment to let me know you were here or ask me any questions that we didn't have time to address in class.

    1. Hi Christine,

I was very interested to read about your experiences leading a high school prep group for students. How has that shaped your thinking about teaching?

    1. Hi Keely,

Thanks for the comment. What idea are you most excited about trying in your future classrooms?

Agreed - really great class. Loved the spaghetti and marshmallows, and all of the great "real world" experience you had to share.

    1. Hi Kathleen,

I've never visited Whitehorse, but would love to hear the similarities and differences you've noticed from there to here. Your experiences with Aboriginal education will be a huge benefit to all of us!

    1. Jessica,

That's one of the most awesome compliments I've ever gotten! Thanks so much for such a thoughtful comment!

Teaching is "faking it till you make it", and I hope to help you increase your teaching confidence, but also let you know that we all have times that we have to fake it!

    1. Hi Melissa,

Thanks for the comment. What, in particular, do you think you'll use in your future classroom?

Your BA was similar to mine. I majored in English Literature and have a minor in Comparative Religion. Do you plan to do your ABQ course so you can teach the higher grades as well?

    1. Hi Sasha,

Thanks for the comment. I'm anxious (in a good way, not so much the nervous way!) for next class too!

I was really interested to read about your experiences in Kitigan Zibi. I believe that members of the Global Cohort at UOttawa BEd visit Kitigan Zibi periodically. I think even our assistant dean teaches there regularly. Let me know if you'd like me to put you in touch!

    1. Yo, Aryam (it's your favourite word, right?!),

I was interested to read that you have been a volunteer in an elementary school for four years. What were the best parts of that experience? What ideas will you keep and change for your own classes in the future?

Thanks for commenting. I'd love to hear more about your interest in teaching Japanese university students. Have you visited Japan before? A friend of mine teaches business development in Tokyo!
